Language Café Goal 10

An innovative space, a meeting and exchange hub that fosters creativity and interaction, promoting the functional use of languages to create opportunities for discussion, conversation, and relaxation in an international and informal setting.

1. Promote the value of inclusion and cultural diversity

Multiculturalism is defining characteristics of societies with high rates of well-being, health, and sustainability.

Italian society is one among them with Islam being the most professed religion among immigrants (33.3%), followed by Orthodox Christianity (28.8%), and with the remaining 10% adhering to various other religions.

2. Learn a new language

Multiculturalism is a source of innovation and creativity. At Luiss, we witness the number of international students each year, highlighting our openness to multiculturalism.

Italy is home to a remarkable 31 foreign languages.

3. Seek opportunities to connect with people different from you

Just as biodiversity is essential for the ecosystem’s survival, cultural diversity is a valuable heritage to preserve. The United Nations General Assembly has championed the Universal Declaration of Cultural Diversity and annually observes World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue, and Development.

Engaging in conversations with individuals from various countries, cultures, and backgrounds is always enriching.

4. Contribute to breaking down stereotypes and discrimination through your actions

Interfaith dialogue promotes peaceful coexistence in our increasingly multicultural societies. Currently, there are more than 2.3 billion Christians, 1.9 billion Muslims and 1.16 billion Hindus worldwide. There are more than 500 million Buddhists and 430 million adherents of regional ethnic-based religions. It is important to gain knowledge about different histories, cultures, and religions because only through understanding and respecting religious freedom can we dismantle stereotypes and discrimination.

5. Cultivate your creativity

Creativity is closely tied to enhancing an individual’s psychological well-being and health.

Engaging in creative activities involves cognitive, emotional, and social factors, promoting openness to new experiences, flexibility, autonomy, and tolerance.

6. Develop soft skills related to teamwork

Participating in team building and teamwork activities stimulates creativity, fosters leadership qualities, and educates individuals in empathy, listening, and emotional intelligence. These skills are among the 15 most in-demand soft skills in the world of work for 2025. Utilize this space to learn more about them and shape your future!
