With its electric Smart cars, numerous charging points at the sites, company cars and all-electric shuttle service, the Luiss Green Mobility project enables the entire community to embrace environmentally friendly transportation. Click here to find out how it works!
1. Drive less, walk more!
Walking a 1.7 km route in a month can prevent the emission of 11 kg of CO2. Walking at an average speed for 30 minutes burns about 100 calories and offers significant psychophysical benefits. To put it into perspective, in Italy, cars produce 64.1 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to a mass of coal that would stretch along a train 4500 km long, enough to return from Turin to the Ural Mountains. When time and distance permit, choosing to commute by foot is not only the most sustainable option but also the healthiest.
2. Use a bike
Traveling by bike emits 21 g of CO2 per km. This means that if a bicycle were used instead of an average car for a 10 km commute on workdays, the individual CO2 savings would amount to 250 kg per year
3. Use public transportation
Consider using public transportation instead of your car. Bus transportation emits 101 g of CO2 per kilometer, while car transportation generates up to 271 g per passenger per kilometer!
4. When you can, opt for train travel over flying
Traveling by train is the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation in Europe. In 2018, transportation accounted for 25% of the European Union’s greenhouse gas emissions with air transport contributing 13%, while rail transport accounted for just 0.4%.
5. Consider buying an electric vehicle
Choosing a hybrid car over one with average CO2 emissions can help prevent the emission of 495 kg of CO in a single year!
