Printer Points Goal 12

De-emphasizing paper use, centralizing the purchase of toner and printers, and digitizing processes are some of the actions that have enabled our University to reduce paper consumption and the number of printouts.

1. Avoid printing whenever possible, and if necessary, use EcoFonts

When feasible, it is best to avoid printing documents and opt to read them on screen, especially for draft versions or lengthy texts. If printing is necessary, consider using grayscale, which significantly reduces ink usage.

2. Take small steps to reduce the number of pages to print

By implementing simple measures, you can reduce the number of pages to be printed by up to 48%! To achieve this, choose the duplex (double-sided) option, set the spacing to 1.5, avoid using excessive headlines and paragraphs, adjust the text size to 11/10 and use 1 x 1.5 x 1 x 1 margins.

3. Turn off the printer at the end of the day

The majority of a printer’s power consumption occurs when it is not actively printing. Approximately 50% of power is consumed in standby mode, and 42% when it is off but still plugged in. Turning off the printer when not in use is an effective way to save energy; but it is even better to both turn it off and unplug it!

4. Replace and dispose of the toner cartridge properly

Toner cartridges are considered special non-hazardous waste, so they must be disposed of correctly at WEEE collection centers Find your nearest center: https://www.amaroma.it/raccolta-differenziata/4210-centri-di-raccolta.html
