The Dome is a technologically advanced and highly sustainable facility designed to exist in perfect harmony with its surroundings, minimizing its environmental impact. This achievement is made possible through careful choices in design, including energy efficiency, sustainable material sourcing, water reclamation, and soil permeability. As a result, the building has earned one of the world’s most prestigious environmental quality certifications, LEED Existing Building Platinum.
All of our buildings are designed to minimize their environmental footprint. We achieve this through the use of LED lamps, faucets that mix air and water, and automatic lights that turn off when not in use. One hundred percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources.
1. Turn off the lights when you leave the office, classrooms, and common areas
Approximately 30 % of energy consumption in Italian offices results from artificial lighting. Turning off the light when they are not in use is a simple yet impactful action!
2. Unplug appliances and chargers when finished using them
Leaving chargers plugged in for 24 hours consumes an entire phone charge, approximately about 20 wH per day. It is a good practice to unplug chargers from the outlet when they are not connected to a device. To put this into perspective, in the European Union, the habit of leaving microwave ovens plugged in leads to the emission of 7.7 million tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to the annual emissions of 6.8 million cars.
3. Use LED bulbs
You can reduce lighting energy consumption by up to 50% by installing energy-efficient LED bulbs. Replacing light bulbs in our homes is a simple yet impactful action!
4. Use home automation tools
Home automation systems can significantly reduce energy consumption and waste in our home, sometimes achieving savings of 50-60%.
5. Take the stair when possible
On average, an elevator consumes 5% of an office’s total electricity consumption. Opting for stairs can reduce consumption by 20-75%.
6. Activate the stand-by mode on your PC, and when not in use, turn off the monitor
An office computer left on for 9 hours a day can consume up to 175 kWh in a year. Enabling the energy-saving option prevents the emission of 49 kg of CO2, while turning it off when not in use can save more than 65 kWh!
7. Turn off the printer at the end of the day and, whenever possible, minimize the number of prints
Turning off the printer when not in use is an effective way to save energy. When in stand-by mode, printers consume 50% of their energy. By turning them off while keeping them plugged in, energy consumption drops to 42%. Ideally, you should turn it off and unplug it.
8. Be mindful of indoor temperature settings
Did you know that every extra degree can lead to a 5-10% increase in annual fuel consumption? Set the temperature to 18° for a comfortable environment.
9. Turn off air conditioning systems in offices or common areas when they are no longer needed
Air conditioning accounts for about 20% of total winter energy consumption and 9% of summer energy consumption. Turning off air conditioners is a simple gesture environmental gesture that reduces waste.
10. Reduce hot water usage
In homes, the energy required to produce hot water constitutes about 25% of the total energy consumption, while in residential buildings, average water usage accounts for 20% of total consumption. It is advisable to use cold water whenever possible and to implement small daily measures, such as covering pots with a lid, which can save up to 75% of the energy required to boil water.
