Reducing energy use means reducing emissions.
Therefore, saving energy is first and foremost a way to weigh less on the environment.
We need the commitment of the entire Luiss community to achieve an important goal: save 1 million kW in 1 year.
How? All it takes is small gestures, simple common-sense practices.

Turn off the lights when leaving offices, classrooms or common spaces

30% of energy consumption within workplaces comes from the use of artificial lights.

Hot water icon

Reduce your use of hot water.

About 25% of total electricity consumption comes from producing hot water.

Charger unplug icon

Unplug chargers when they’re not being used

Leaving the charger plugged in for 24 hours means consuming as much as one phone charge, or about 20 wH per day.

Activate your computer’s standby mode

To do so decreases energy consumption by 37%, saving 49 Kg of CO2 a year.

Computer and monitor icon

Turn off your computer when not in use for more than half an hour and turn off your monitor when possible

In a year, it consumes 135 kWh: if turned off when not in use it can save over 65 kWh.

Printer icon

Turn off any printers at the end of the day and reduce the number of prints to the minimum possible

To do so cuts energy consumption by 42%.

Thermostat and window icon

When it gets too hot, lower the temperature on the thermostat before opening the windows. However, also be sure that there is a regular exchange of air

Each additional degree leads to an increase between 5 and 10% of fuel consumption.

Air conditioning icon

Where possible, turn off air-conditioning units in offices and other common spaces when not in use

Air conditioning use accounts for about 20% of total winter energy consumption and 9% of summer consumption.

Staircase icon

When possible, use the stairs

In workplaces, elevator use accounts for 5% of total electricity consumption. By using the stairs, consumption is reduced by 20–75%.
